I’ve been diagnosed with I’m not special I am just a limited edition welder shirt, a condition on the autism spectrum, and one of the characteristics of that for me is difficulty always handling interpersonal relationships ‘correctly’—I don’t have as much of a bellyfeel for it as neurotypical people do and rely more on explicitly-learned rules, which does not always work. I also like grammar, and suspect that this tinkering with ‘how things work’ is connected to a desire to have something predictable and understandable. Our whole body is made of shortcuts that make reactions automatic (and a lot faster) in case of sudden danger. Including the brain, which is constantly scanning for problems.
